James Staskiewicz
RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU) — A former supervisor for the Town of Newbold will stand trial for election fraud after he admitted to forging signatures on his re-election papers.
James Staskiewicz waived his preliminary hearing on Tuesday. A judge then determined there was enough evidence to move the case forward. Staskiewicz is charged with one count each of election fraud and misconduct in public office.
He’s accused of forging signatures on his nominating petition during his recent re-election campaign.
The 69-year-old is scheduled to enter a plea on March 27th. Charges against him are Class I felonies, which carry a maximum sentence of three years in state prison.
Sheriff’s officials say he has admitted to faking the signatures. He is no longer listed as a Supervisor for the town.
