MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Marquette opened the Big East Tournament today against the Red Storm of St. Johns.
Tyler Kolek, the Big East Player of the Year, was critical to Marquette’s overtime win. He finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds, but he struggled to hit big shots, hitting only 1 of 5 threes. Olivier-Maxence Prosper also had a big game today, scoring 16 points.
The Golden Eagles struggled to score in the first half before rallying from a 10-point deficit at halftime to win. The team finished the game shooting only 26% from three and 75% from the free throw line.
Marquette last faced the St. Johns on Saturday, when Marquette won 96-94. The sixth-ranked Golden Eagles led St. John’s by ten points with less than 30 seconds remaining on Saturday, only to see the Red Storm nearly come all the way back.
Marquette will advance to the semifinals and face either UConn or Providence on Friday.
