SHAWANO, WI (WSAU) – A Shawano police officer who shot and killed an armed man in November has been cleared of wrongdoing.
The officer was justified in using lethal force against Lucal L. Christenson on November 19. The officer will not face any charges, and the case is now closed.
The officer’s name is not being released.
The Winnebago County DA’s office reviewed the shooting. Their report says the suspect “was armed with a deadly weapon, had fired it once, and made implicit and explicit threats that he would shoot others with the shotgun.” The report concludes that the officer “was forced to act at that moment’s notice to neutralize a deadly threat.”
The review also included interviews with witnesses and a review of police body-cam footage.
