The restructuring dialog will once again dominate the day at the Wausau School Board’s regular meeting on Monday.
The board will hear a short presentation on feedback regarding the desire of some to have a staggered implementation of the proposal, which some in the community are calling for.
Monday’s presentation also includes some new details regarding the proposal to convert one of the former elementary schools into a childcare facility for those five years of age and younger. Wausau School District employees would have a guaranteed number of slots. Once those are filled, local businesses would be able to buy in as well.
The district is proposing a partnership with the Woodson YMCA to hire and manage staff for the facility, meaning the two entities would need to draft a business plan and approve the partnership.
According to the presentation, the plan would take a bite out of the 2,000 or so childcare slots that are needed in Marathon County. To see the presentation for yourself, click here.
Monday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM at the Longfellow Administration Center. Public and student comment is part of the agenda.
It’s the first details about the proposal, which has been a cornerstone of the district’s pitch to restructure its school makeup by cutting three elementary schools and merging two public high schools into one with two campuses; Junior High students at one, Senior High at the other. The proposal has drawn criticism from many in the community, including some who want to see the issue passed by a public referendum before implementation.
