ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU) – On Sunday night, five moviegoers were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning at the Rothschild Cedar Creek movie theater.
According to Riverside Fire Chief Rob Bowen, firefighters arrived at the theater at 5:30 on Sunday. Five persons, according to Bowen, received medical attention, and four of the five were sent to a hospital by ambulance for additional care.
When they arrived, the theater had already been evacuated, according to Bowen.
A reading in one of the theaters revealed a level of 683 parts per million, according to Bowen. Bowen defined a high level as 800 ppm. He stated that at 800 ppm, a person would get a headache or nausea after 45 minutes of exposure. A person may lose consciousness after two hours of exposure at 800 ppm.
Bowen stated that when they arrived, an HVAC technician was already on the scene.
There is currently no timetable available for when the theater will reopen.
