FITCHBURG, WI (WSAU-WKOW) – In the north police district of Fitchburg this past weekend, five cars were stolen. They were all Kias or Hyundais. This comes only days after Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and the Madison Common Council agreed overwhelmingly to pursue a lawsuit against the vehicle companies.
All of the vehicles, according to Fitchburg police, were taken from Leopold Way, Pike Drive, and Whispering Pines Way. Kias and Hyundais have a bad reputation for being readily stolen. More than half of the vehicles stolen in Madison last summer, according to Mayor Rhodes-Conway, were of these brands.
Fitchburg police say they can’t provide many more details because the investigation is still ongoing. They can confirm that four of the five cars have been located.
Vulnerable models with keyed ignition were manufactured between 2020 and 2021, according to police. Fitchburg Police are asking anyone with additional information about this case to contact them.
