MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A judge ruled there is enough evidence for the case against a suspected drink driver to move forward to trial. John Lahti, 42, is accused of killing an 8-year-old boy from Gleason last September.
Lahti is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and causing injury while under the influence charges.
In Lincoln County Court on Monday he waived his right to a preliminary hearing. The court found probable cause and Lahti will face further proceedings. Bond remains at $50,000.
An arraignment is scheduled for March 28. Lahti can enter a plea at that time.
Police reports say the crash happened on Highway 17 near Merrill. Lahti’s vehicle crossed the center line and stuck an oncoming truck with two adults and two children inside. The victim was one of the passengers.
