WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) — US Senator Tammy Baldwin is one of over a dozen lawmakers that have signed on to a proposal to allow the year-round, nationwide sale of ethanol blends higher than 10% helping to lower fuel prices, support farmers and producers, and provide certainty in fuel markets.
“Biofuels are a homegrown energy solution that help cut the price at the pump, reduce our reliance on foreign countries’ oil, and support Wisconsin’s farmers and producers,” said Senator Baldwin in a press release. “I am excited to join this legislation with my Democratic and Republican colleagues to ensure cleaner E15 fuel is available year-round, supporting jobs in rural communities and our Made in America economy.”
Among the others that have signed on to the plan include South Dakota Republicans John Thune and Mike Rounds, Illinois Democrats Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin, Minnesota Democrat Amy Klobuchar, and Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley.
Professional and trade groups that have endorsed the proposal include the National Corn Growers Association and the American Farm Burau Federation.
It’s unclear when the measure will be taken up by the House and Senate.
