DULUTH, MN (WSAU) — A first-period goal from Kirsten Simms was enough for Wisconsin as the Badgers defeated Ohio State for their 7th national championship in women’s hockey.
Simms’ goal came just past the midway point of the first period on an even-strength attack. The freshmen scored off a feed from Claire Enright, who was credited with the assist.
Wisconsin kept the pressure on throughout the game, recording 11 shots in the second period and six in the third.
Cami Kronish made 31 saves for Wisconsin to earn the shutout win.
Wisconsin has now won the most women’s hockey national championships of any NCAA program. The Badgers had been tied with Minnesota with six titles going into this year.
The University will hold a welcome home ceremony for the team Monday evening at LaBhan Arena. Doors will open at 5:30, and the program begins at 6.
