WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Marathon County Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department has announced all of the county’s snowmobile trails will be closed effective at midnight.
The decision was made over several hours on Tuesday. An initial release from the county stated that two zones would close at midnight, leaving only zones 1 and 2 open going into Wednesday. A few hours later a follow-up release was issued announcing the closure of all trails.
This marks the second time that all trails have closed in 2023. The initial closure came in February when mild weather deteriorated conditions in the middle of the month. A series of snowstorms a few weeks later restocked the trails, allowing them to open by the end of the month.
The County Parks, Recreation, and Forestry office notes that trails are now closed for the season. Meaning any rider caught on the trails will be considered trespassing. That could lead to a citation and loss of privileges.
