WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Mayor Katie Rosenberg of Wausau has urged the communities of Rib Mountain, Rothschild, Schofield, and Weston to collaborate on a Fourth of July fireworks show.
On July Fourth evening, there will be a show near the Wausau Airport looking toward the river. In a letter to the local communities, Rosenberg said that the display will be able to produce larger fireworks than would typically be seen at Marathon Park because the airport will be able to provide a larger buffer zone. According to the proposal, it would be northern Wisconsin’s biggest fireworks display.
The executive assistant to the mayor, Jean Frankel, says, “What we’re trying to do is have everyone chip in a little bit and put on a big fireworks display over the lake, and then instead of having one large spot where everyone goes to view it, we’re going to have a variety of viewing spots.”
The Weston Board discussed the proposed plan at its meeting on Monday. The plan will also be discussed on Tuesday by the town of Rib Mountain and the Rothschild Tourist Commission. The Schofield City Council will meet on March 28, and the idea is expected to be on the agenda once it is released.
