CHICAGO, IL (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers opened the 2023 season against the Chicago Cubs this afternoon and struggled at the plate. The Cubs dominated the first game of the series, winning 4-0.
The Brewers have now lost on opening day at Wrigley Field three times in the last four seasons. Rookie Brice Turang had his first career hit, and offseason additions Brian Anderson and William Contreras had their first Brewers hits but could not manage to find their way across home plate.
Corbin Burnes struggled as well, pitching only 5 innings while allowing 4 earned runs and issuing three walks on only 87 pitches. Furthermore, he only managed three strikeouts, which matched his career low for a start and marked just his third three-strikeout game since 2019.
The Brewers will try to even the series against the Cubs on Saturday. The pregame on WSAU begins at 12:45, and the first pitch is at 1:20.
