(WSAU) – Major League Baseball is back, and the Milwaukee Brewers had their 1st win. The Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1 on Saturday for the team’s first win of the season.
The Milwaukee Brewers pitcher, Brandon Woodroof pitched six sharp innings and Devin Williams took the mound for the 9th inning for the save.
The Cubs were ahead 1-0 before the Brewers made a comeback in the 8th inning at Wrigley Field.
William Contreras hit a tiebreaking two-run single in Milwaukee’s three-run eighth inning.
Brewers center fielder Joey Wiemer made his major league debut and doubled in the third inning. Wiemer was promoted after infielder Luis Urias landed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain. Urias is expected to miss between six-to-eight weeks.
The Brewers have a chance to take the season-opening series against the Cubs this afternoon. The Brewers have Eric Lauer on the mound for today’s game, and Christian Yelich is back in the leadoff spot and Ademes is batting third.
The Brewers face off against the Cubs to complete their first series season at 1:10 PM.
