The Stevens Point City Council is scheduled to hold a special meeting regarding a proposal to transfer land to Portage County for a new County Campus Facility.
According to the posted agenda, the land transfer would involve Lincoln Center and surrounding lots, Municipal Lots 18 and 23, and a parcel of land at Water Street along with the city’s portion of the City/County building at 1515 Strongs Avenue- the current City Hall location.
City leaders note that the land transfer would create a 14-acre property for a courthouse and administrative offices along with parking for employees and visitors. The proposal would also involve the vacation of portions of two streets- Arlington Place and Elk Street.
City leaders including Mayor Mike Wiza and Director of Community Development Ryan Kernosky say they are supportive of the proposal though do have some concerns, which are expected to be brought up during the meeting. They and the county both say they are committed to an open line of communication on the issue.
Thursday’s meeting begins at 5 PM and will be held in the community room of the Police Station on Michigan Avenue. A live stream will be available by Zoom and on the city’s website.
