STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) – There was an officer-involved shooting in Stevens Point early Friday morning, according to both the city’s Police Department and the State Department Of Justice
Officers were called to the 900 block of Bukolt Avenue around 3:00 AM after a report about a suspicious person outside of a home. A suspect shot at them when they arrived, and officers returned fire.
According to the DOJ, the suspect was hit and officers immediately began life-saving measures. The person was hospitalized, and an update on their condition hasn’t been given.
The officer who fired has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard for such incidents.
Police say there’s no threat to the public, and more information is forthcoming. The shooting will be investigated by the DOJ Division of Criminal Investigations.
