(WSAU)- The Milwaukee Brewers 6 game winning streak has come to an end. They lost to the Cardinals last night with a 6-0 game loss. Eric Lauer lasted just 4 innings throwing 93 pitches. He allowed 6 earned runs, 7 hits, 3 walks, 2 home runs, and 4 strikeouts. After Lauer’s exit, Gus Varland pitched 2 scoreless innings, as did Javy Guerra, and Joel Payamps added a scoreless inning as well.
On offense, the team struggled as they had only 5 hits and 3 walks. The only player to hit for extra bases was Joey Wiemer. He hit a double in the 3rd and extended his hitting streak to 7 games.
The Brewers were able to load the bases twice in the game but were left loaded both times. The team went 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left 8 men on base as a team.
Eric Lauer stated after that game that he has concerns that his fastball is not as fast as it had been last season.
The Brewers did acquire left-handed pitcher, Bennett Sousa from the Cincinnati Reds today and sent him to their Triple-A affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee. Sousa went 3-0 with an 8.41 ERA in 25 relief appearances for The Chicago White Sox last year.
Aaron Ashby, the Brewers left-handed pitcher, has been placed on the 60-day injured list after announcing this past Wednesday that he was undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery, and will miss out on the majority of the season.
The Milwaukee Brewers go for the series win this Easter Sunday, in a rubber match against the Cardinals. The first pitch takes place at 1:10 P.M central time.
