WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau recently welcomed a new Transit Director for MetroRide.
Mayor Katie Rosenberg says Matthew Rosenbloom Jones has already brought an injection of new ideas into the department while making connections across the state. “I just had a meeting with him and he rattled off all of these [people he’s met.] He’s already being appointed to the state transit board. he’s making really good connections and is starting to get into this whole thing,” said Rosenberg. “He’s really getting his feet wet.”
She adds that can only be a good thing for the city of Wausau as the city faces multiple challenges to public transit. “We’re excited to continue tackling those.”
Those issues include a lack of service in multiple areas including evenings, weekends, and the city’s Industrial Park. MetroRide busses also can’t go beyond the city limits due to a lack of an agreement for service with those communities. “He is starting to get to know those folks in the other communities, the [Metropolitan Planning Organization.]
“He really wants to get a handle on what kind of service we offer, what kind of service the community is asking for, and what is possible. I think we can get to a place where we can start talking about that. Sometimes restarting those [conversations] with different faces is helpful,” added Rosenberg.
Rosenbloom Jones takes over for Greg Seubert, who retired in January after 40 years of service to the city. According to his LinkedIn profile, he comes to Wausau from Washington, D.C. Rosenberg says he has experience working with transit organizations both big and small and in both the public and private sectors.
