GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Packers draft preparation is continuing to heat up as scouts and coaches host prospects for official Top 30 visits.
This week Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford, Georgia Tech edge rusher Keion White and Central Michigan running back Lew Nichols will be making the trip to Green Bay.
According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford’s visit will be on Tuesday and the others will be throughout the week.
Clifford is Penn State’s all-time leader in a variety of passing categories, including completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. He played 51 games and made 46 starts over five seasons. He threw 86 touchdown passes, 31 interceptions, and rushed for 15 touchdowns in 32 starts for Penn State, including an 11-2 record in 2022.
The Packers will almost certainly look to the draft for Love’s backup. Clifford, who is 24 years old, could be a Day 3 option. Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker also visited Green Bay last week.
Keion White was named an All-ACC selection in 2022 after recording 7.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in 12 games. During the pre-draft visit period, he is expected to have up to eight other visits, including this visit with the Packers.
He did not run the 40-yard dash or finish agility drills at the Combine and suffered a minor injury while running the 40 during Georgia Tech’s pro day. White clocked somewhere between 4.65 and 4.75 seconds on his first and only attempt.
White played tight end for Old Dominion to start his college career. He switched positions, playing defensive end, before eventually transferring to Georgia Tech, where he spent his last two collegiate seasons.
Over the course of 32 games, Lew Nichols gained 3,636 yards and scored 29 touchdowns. While at Central Michigan, he rushed 614 times for 3,061 yards and 26 touchdowns and caught 71 passes for 575 yards and three touchdowns.
Nichols rushed for an FBS-high 1,848 yards in 2021, ranking second all-time at the school, and created an FBS-high 2,186 all-purpose yards. In 2022, he appeared in only nine games after battling injuries throughout the season.
During the 2023 draft, the Packers will look to establish long-term security at running back. Aaron Jones will have a significant cap hit in 2024, making his future in Green Bay uncertain, and A.J. Dillon’s rookie contract will end after this season.
