GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – On Tuesday, Packers offensive tackle David Bakhtiari made headlines by speculating on the possible outcome of the current three-way tie between Green Bay, the Jets, and Aaron Rodgers.
Bakhtiari made several unusual word choices along the way.
Packers fans who watch the team every Sunday frequently refer to the team as “we.” However, Bakhtiari regularly referred to the Packers as “they” while describing the chance that the Packers will pay Rodgers not to play.
“The Packers are rebuilding, whether you think so or not,” tackle Bakhtiari said on the Barstool Sport’s podcast Bussin’ With The Boys. “Could they be good? I don’t know. Could they be bad? Probably if you’re betting more people are gonna think they’re gonna be bad than good, right? Isn’t that fair to say? So then they’ll be like, ‘Well, we’re gonna suck anyways. We want what we want, and we’re not gonna bend to anyone. So we’ll just eat it. . . . We’ll pay you, we don’t care.”
“I’ve said that to all my teammates once I understood that back when Josh Sitton got cut. He was my left guard. … It happens dude. I’ve told guys, ‘go get yours.’ I would be more jaded if they took less money because they felt like they had to stay with their guys. I’m still going to like you no matter what. I’ve said that to Davante [Adams], I’ve said that to Corey [Linsley], and I even said that to Elgton Jenkins coming up. Go do what’s best for you. Take the emotion and friendship stuff out it, it’s a business,” Bakhtiari continued.
If the team decided to trade Bakhtiari before June 1 there would be a $38 million cap charge for 2023, with a $9.5 million roster bonus and $5.5 million of basic salary converted to a signing bonus. A trade after June 1 would decrease that cap charge by half.
Many league insiders believe that the last week of April should be the last time possible trade packages for Rodgers are discussed, with a trade being done before the first round of the draft on April 27.
