MIAMI, FL (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Bucks will open the NBA Playoffs against the Miami Heat on Sunday.
They topped the Chicago Bulls 102-91 on Friday to win the last-chance qualifier in the Eastern Conference Play-In tournament and the #8 seed in the playoff bracket. Jimmy Butler and Max Strus both scored 31 points in the win to eliminate Chicago.
Miami will now travel to Milwaukee on Sunday for Game One of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 PM, with pregame coverage on 93.9 The Game starting at 4 PM.
Game two is scheduled for Wednesday in Milwaukee. Game Three will be next Saturday, April 22nd, in Miami.
The winner of the best-of-seven will take on either Cleveland or the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The Play-In Tournament was born out of the COVID-19 pandemic and the league’s “bubble” tournament in Orlando. The move was aimed at allowing teams who had played an uneven number of games to still have a chance at the postseason. The league has kept the idea around to keep middle-of-the-pack teams from coasting to the end of the season, as the seven and eight seeds are no longer guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.
