The results of the Spring election will become reality in many Central Wisconsin communities beginning this week when the winners are sworn into their various posts, including in Stevens Point and Marshfield.
Both communities will hold reorganizational meetings of their respective city councils. In Stevens Point, that means a new Council President will be chosen as Meleesa Johnson gave up her seat on the Council to run for Mayor this spring, a race she lost to incumbent Mike Wiza who will begin his third term as the city’s leader.
Five alders will also be sworn into their posts in Marshfield (all even-numbered districts).
Meanwhile, in Kronenwetter they are continuing the search for a new Administrator.
The Village Administrative Policy Committee will meet to approve a request for proposals for the hiring of a consulting firm to conduct a search on behalf of the Village. Leaders say they feel they’ll get more qualified candidates and possibly have access to a pre-screened candidate pool this way.
Village leaders add that their last search, which was conducted mostly through municipal job boards and Indeed, only yielded one candidate worth interviewing.
Former Plover Administrator Dan Mahoney has been brought on in an interim role. He’s the second interim administrator since the Village parted ways with Richard Downey last summer. Previously, they contracted for services with Duane Gau through Public Administration Associates. Gau left earlier this year due to family reasons, leaving Police Chief Terry McHugh to handle most of the duties.
Mahoney’s contract runs through June, according to documents included with Tuesday’s agenda.
The committee will also consider giving McHugh a $5,000 bonus for performing the duties for several weeks.
