NEW YORK, NY (WSAU) – Fox News and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways, the network said on Monday.
“Mr. Carlson’s last show aired on Friday, April 21st. Starting this evening at 8 p.m. ET, Fox News Tonight will air live as an interim show hosted by rotating Fox News personalities until a new host is named,” the network said in a press release.
The outlet provided no explanation for Carlson’s sudden departure. Last Monday, Fox agreed to pay Dominion Voting Systems $787.5 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that the network defamed it by discussing and reporting on suspicions of voter fraud during the 2020 election.
According to reports, Carlson’s senior executive producer, Justin Wells, has also departed Fox News, indicating that Tucker Carlson may be looking to start a new show somewhere else.
Tucker Carlson’s show was routinely ranked as the nation’s most-watched cable news show and broke records back in 2020 when his show averaged 4.3 million viewers and 791,000 in the key 25-54 age demographic according to Nielsen Media Research.
Carlson’s show finished the first quarter of 2023 with an average of 3.25 million total viewers and 421,000 demo viewers, putting it ahead of all others, with The Five coming in second with 3.06 million total viewers and 317,000 demo viewers.
