STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — We are now less than 60 days away from the 2023 USGA Men’s Senior Open At SentryWorld in Stevens Point.
Mayor Mike Wiza says the final preparations are in full swing to ensure the city puts its best foot forward for the thousands of visitors that will pack town for an entire week at the end of June. “We want to make sure the players, their teams, the spectators- everyone has a great time,” said Wiza.
Downtown businesses will be holding golf-themed events and sales during the tournament, and Wiza adds that he’s heard that the Tavern League may organize some bus tours of local establishments as well. “There is so much more that will be going on. Even if you aren’t into golf I think you would be interested in seeing some of the things that are going on.”
All the events lead into the city’s biggest summer celebration, Riverfront Rendezvous, and Wiza hopes the golf fans will help themselves to what that event has to offer, including the weekend fireworks show. “We have added some food trucks, we have entertainment on the west side of the river to try to accommodate all of the extra people. I also want them to see the best fireworks show in Wisconsin.”
He says he has just wrapped up discussions with the fireworks contractor on the details of this year’s show which will be shorter in length but will include more spectacular displays.
Tickets for the US Senior Open are still available including day and week passes along with premium options for all days beginning June 28th. Those can be purchased at the USGA website. Riverfront Rendezvous festivities will begin June 30th with the complete schedule of events available on the city’s website.
