WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Capital Improvement and Street Maintenance committee voted on Monday to support the closure of the McClellan parking ramp in downtown Wausau.
In April, Alderman Gissileman, Alderman Diny, Alderman Kilian, Alderman Larson, Alderman Watson, and Alderman Henke all voted to send the resolution back to CISM for further evaluation after expressing concerns that the proper protocol wasn’t being followed.

Alderman Rasmussen spoke more about her concerns about the safety of the ramp saying, “If we think people are upset about the fact that we may retire the McClellan Street ramp, imagine how upset they would be if that thing comes down with people or cars in it…I’m very nervous about its condition.”
Alderman Doug Diny also weighed in on the possibility of closing the ramp saying, “Part of the plan is how are we going to pay for it and what are we going to do next…if we are going to close it…I was convinced with the information that we were given that it likely needs to be closed.”
Amy Sentara, the building manager for the Dudly Tower spoke on behalf of the staff saying, “We’re fine if the McClellan ramp comes down, assuming the land is blacktopped and striped and parking is made available we are totally fine with that.”
Parking will be available at 120 Scott St and the city is willing to accommodate by reserving extra handicap spots for anyone who may need it.
The resolution will now be sent back to the City Council to be re-voted on and put into effect before the June 1st deadline.
