GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Two longtime friends are being reunited yet again this season, but in a different shade of green.
Randall Cobb played the previous two seasons with the Green Bay Packers, and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he will sign a one-year contract with the New York Jets.
Over the years, Cobb has played for the Packers, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Texans, recording 625 receptions for 7,585 yards and 53 touchdowns. He played in Green Bay for 10 of those seasons, where he became friends with Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers reportedly requested the Packers to trade for Cobb when he decided to return to the team in 2021.
Following Green Bay’s Week 18 loss to the Detroit Lions, the two walked off the field together, seemingly indicating that one (or both) would not be returning to Green Bay this upcoming season.
“It was what it was,” Cobb said to the media after the game. “We just kind of had a moment and took it all in. I remember after my first-ever football game here in Green Bay, us walking off the field together and it was a special feeling. This one felt a little different.”
Cobb joins the Jets this offseason as the second former wide receiver for Green Bay. Allen Lazard spent the previous five years with the Packers before being signed by New York to a four-year contract in free agency.
