MADISON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is now looking into comments made by Wausau East Band Director Rob Perkins towards a student.
WAOW TV reports that DPI records show Rob Perkins is the subject of a “moral conduct” investigation in which a student says Perkins made “racist and sexist comments” towards a student of Asian descent.
DPI leaders haven’t commented on the investigation. It’s worth noting that they do have the power to revoke a teacher’s license based on the outcome of such investigations.
The Wausau School District conducted its own internal investigation which acknowledged that students were “let down” by the actions of staff. The investigation did lead to the district hiring a consultant to help create a better environment for both students and staff – offering an opportunity for the Wausau School District “to be better and do better.”
