MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) – The City of Marshfield is looking into allowing residents to have backyard chickens on their property and the Plan Commission would like to receive public input before making any decisions.
Up to four chickens would be allowed on a single-family lot under a proposed ordinance, providing the landowners obtain the necessary license and follow established rules.
Members of the Plan Commission will take into account public comments about the proposal at their upcoming meeting, which will take place on Tuesday, May 16, at 7 PM in City Hall. The Commission members’ recommendation to the Common Council of the City will be aided by the responses they receive.
“Getting public comment on this topic is vital in this decision because this will help us gauge resident support for allowing backyard chickens in the city. So, we are opening up an online survey to get clear data to provide the Commission,” said City Administrator Steve Barg.
According to Tom Loucks, the city’s communications director, a poll is currently accessible online through Friday, May 12, 2023, at publicinput.com/chickens.
