STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – According to a notice from the Portage District Attorney’s Office on Thursday, the police officers involved in the shooting of a man in Stevens Point last month have been cleared of wrongdoing and the force they used was found reasonable in the circumstances.
Nicholas Meyer, the guy who was shot by police, is accused of three felonies, including two counts of first-degree attempted homicide.
Meyer allegedly told DOJ investigators that, at roughly 3:15 a.m. on April 7, he believed he observed two to three African American individuals wearing police uniforms approach his residence.
He surrendered after being shot by one of the responding cops, and no officers were hurt. A day after the shooting, Meyer received treatment for his gunshot wound and was discharged from the hospital.
Law enforcement “reasonably believed the use of deadly force was necessary to protect a third party or oneself from imminent death or great bodily harm,” according to a news release.
The Division of Criminal Investigation of the Wisconsin Department of Justice investigated the case.
Meyer is facing criminal charges, and no other comments have been given at this time.
