STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The UWSP baseball team will not earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship after they fell 9-1 to Whitewater in the WIAC Tournament on Friday.
The Warhawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. That grew to a 7-0 deficit after five.
Payton Nelson tallied three hits in the loss.
Whitewater will now play UW-La Crosse for the tournament championship and will need to beat the Eagles twice. UWL needs just one win to claim the title.
Meanwhile, the Pointer softball team remains alive in their WIAC tournament after two wins on Friday. They topped Eau Claire 4-3 in ten innings and Oshkosh 8-6, eliminating both the Blugolds and Titans.
UWSP will play another elimination game this morning against Whitewater. The winner will get a date with La Crosse for the championship- again the Eagles will need to be beaten twice to be eliminated.
