WASHINGTON DC, (WSAU) – Following the release of the special counsel’s report on Monday, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan, wrote to Special Counsel John Durham and requested that he appear before the committee.
The letter to Durham was originally made available to The Daily Caller after Durham’s investigation revealed “uncorroborated intelligence” was used by the FBI to start its investigation into former President Donald Trump and his potential ties to Russia.
“Neither the U.S. nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement,” Durham’s report states.
According to a Special Counsel John Durham report, the FBI also offered to pay Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous anti-Trump “dossier,” up to $1 million for information connecting Donald Trump to Russia and paid Steele’s main sub source hundreds of thousands of dollars even after the source was unable to back up any of his claims.
Former President Trump reacted to the report by saying, “I, and much more importantly, the American public have been victims of this long-running and treasonous charade started by the Democrats — started by Comey,” Trump told Fox News Digital. “There must be a heavy price to pay for putting our country through this.”
“This report took a long time because John Durham is a very thorough investigator,” Trump said. “But the result is unequivocal and an absolute disaster in terms of justice.”
The report also prompted criticism from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who said that they had “manufactured a false conspiracy theory” to remove Trump from office.
“The Durham Report confirmed what we already knew: weaponized federal agencies manufactured a false conspiracy theory about Trump-Russia collusion,” DeSantis said on Twitter. “It reminds us of the need to clean house at these agencies, as they’ve never been held accountable for this egregious abuse of power.”
Durham is expected to give testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on May 25 at 9:00 a.m.
