MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Bucks’ head coach search is raging on as they’ve added two more candidates to their list.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Bucks have had interviews with Washington Wizards assistant Joseph Blair and University of Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson for the open head coaching position.
Sampson, the first well-known high-profile college coach to speak with Milwaukee about the opening, worked as an assistant coach in the NBA for six seasons, including three with the Bucks, before making a comeback to college basketball in 2014 and building a team at Houston that was competitive enough to possibly win a championship.
In his nine seasons at Houston, Sampson has a 232-74 (.758) record, which includes four straight appearances in the Sweet 16 and a trip to the Final Four in 2021. For much of the 2022–23 season, his Cougars held the nation’s top spot in the rankings.
Before moving on to become an NBA coach with the Wizards, Timberwolves, and 76ers, Joseph Blair won a 2019 G League championship with Rio Grande Valley.
Sources told ESPN that Milwaukee has so far conducted a broad search that includes several assistants, including Charles Lee of Milwaukee, Kenny Atkinson of Golden State, Scott Brooks of Portland, Adrian Griffin of Toronto, Chris Quinn of Miami, Kevin Young of Phoenix, and James Borrego of the former Charlotte Hornets.
