WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wisconsin’s Public Service Commission held a public input session on Thursday regarding a proposed 54% increase in Wausau’s water rates.
Much of the nine-minute hearing was taken up by representatives of the PSC and Ehlers Financial, the city’s financial consultant, explaining the review process and verifying all of the documents that have been submitted.
Brian Roemer of Ehlers confirmed that the proposed increase is needed to improve the utility’s financial health and help pay for a new granular activated carbon filtration system. That will be installed next year to remove PFAS from the city’s water supply.
No public input was given during the meeting, conducted on Zoom and through a phone-in option. Many of the 16 people on the call were either employees of the city, members of the media, or representatives of the PSC.
Two people indicated that they were residents, but neither provided a comment. Representatives of the PSC did confirm that they have received nearly 20 written comments regarding the proposed increase. Those who want to submit comments can still do so via email until Monday, May 22nd. Those can be submitted by clicking here.
