STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The UWSP Baseball team opened the NCAA Division III tournament with a 6-4 win over Augustana of Illinois on Friday.
Kamden Oliver led the Pointers with two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored in the game. Brenden Canterbury had two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored.
Bother homered in the game as well. Oliver added a double.
Casey Pickering pitched five innings and worked around six hits, allowing three runs (two earned). He walked three and struck out three as well to earn the win.
UWSP will now take on either Webster University (MO) or Loras College (IA) in the winner’s bracket game on Saturday. That game begins at 2:30 PM at the UWSP baseball diamond, following the elimination game between Augustana and the loser of WU/LC.
The winner of the four-team, double-elimination tournament will play a best-of-three series against the winner of another regional for the right to go to the NCAA Division III College World Series.
A regional is also being held in La Crosse with UWL hosting Buena Vista (IA), Bethel (MN), and Bethany Lutheran (MN).
