The UW Stevens Point Baseball team advances to the NCAA Tournament Regional Final with a 20-1 win over Webster. Junior, Bradley Comer from Rhinelander, had a two-run run, within the 1st inning to set the tone for the seeded number 15 baseball team. Comer had 4 hits, coming up a triple shy of a cycle. He scored 4 runs.
Braden Canterbury, of Waupaca, also had 4 hits within the game which he homered 1, and drove in 3, and scored 3 times.
Kamden Oliver, of Viroqua Wisconsin, belted 2 home runs, along with his 3 hits. He had 3 RBI’s and scored twice.
Jakob Boos, From Littleton Colorado, had a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 1st inning, and later launched a 2-run putting the team ahead with an early lead.
The Gorloks did get a run in the 4th inning, but by the 5th inning, the game became out of reach.
Payton Nelson out of Wausau, started the 5th inning with a double. Comer recieved a walk after being hit by a pitch, and Caterbury singled to plate on the 1st run. After walks to Anthony Tomczak out of Muskego, and Logan Homoika out of Marshfield, the bases were loaded. Kyle Finger from Clintonville, then hit an RBI groundout making the score 5-1, with 2 down in the inning. Trent Van Ess from Two Rivers, and Boos, both were walked and pushed in another home run. Nelson then doubled for a 2nd time, able to plate 2 more. Corner doubled pushing home 2 more and Canturbury and Oliver hit back-to-back homers, taking the lead to 13-1 following the 11 run inning.
Finger walked with 1 out in the 6th, while Van Ess was hit by a pitch. Nelson singled and loaded the bases for Corner who crushed a grand slam making the score 17-1. Caterbury was hit by pitch, Oliver and Tomczack both hit home runs, taking the lead to 20-1.
Each team then left the bases loaded without scoring in the 7th inning, and neither team scored again for the remainder of the game.
Pitcher JD Schultz, from Stevens Point had a solid start. He went 4.0 innings with 2 strikeouts. Mason Weckler out of Belvidere IL, had 2.0 scoreless frames and a strikeout. Jacob Mein Holze of Middleton, Nathon Krommenakker out of Rudolph and Bryce Ehr from Plover, each pitched an inning as well.
UWSP Pointers with face Webster again today in the Regional Final. The game is slated for 11 A.M and the Pointers only need one win to advance to the Super Regional round.
