BURLINGTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A train struck and killed a 16-year-old teenager in Burlington on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Burlington Police Chief, Jack Meyers ignored flashing lights and drove his bike around the railroad crossing the tracks in an attempt to beat the train.
That is when the boy was hit and killed.
“He’s a 16-year-old kid riding his bike in Burlington on a beautiful day.” “On a nice day like today, he’s no different than any other 16-year-old in the community,” Chief Brian Zmudzimski said.
The teen has been officially identified as Jack Meyers by police. He was a junior at Burlington High School, according to reports.
Police have informed his family and friends of his death.
