In a recent post to Instagram, Students of Wausau East Band shared their frustrations with the Wausau School District in the handling of the accusations against their beloved band teacher, Rob Perkins.
They criticized the district’s “lack of concern,” stating that they believed the focus has been on the media’s ‘one-sided’ interpretation of the circumstances and the district’s fear of negative publicity.
The students stated that they “wanted to speak the truth of what they saw and were ignored.”
From their perspective, it appears that the district is capitulating to the hysterics of a very small contingent of attention-seekers in our community; the whining cast of characters who regularly reveal their ignorance and make fools of themselves in melodramatic fashion at public meetings.
It appears as if the community agitators in Wausau have made assumptions about the teacher without acknowledging that there is more than one side to a story. In their recent statement, Wausau East students expressed their anger towards those who call them “brainwashed.”
At some point, I’ll have to call these people out by name – the ‘community Karens’ who weren’t even present in the classroom and have no personal relationship whatsoever with this teacher. They love their 5 minutes of fame, apparently are unfulfilled in life and seek attention however they can.
Someday, I hope Rob Perkins and his students are vindicated.
