LA CROSSE, WI (WSAU) — The UWSP baseball season now hangs by a thread after a 10-7 loss to La Crosse in Game One of the Division III Baseball Super Regionals.
Wausau native Payton Nelson had three hits, including his team-leading 14th home run of the year. It was his fourth home run in the last three games. He also doubled and finished a triple shy of a cycle. Nelson drove in four and
Jakob Boos was just a home run shy of the cycle with three hits and two RBI in the game. Logan Homolka (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) also had three hits on the day, scoring two runs for UWSP.
The Pointers fell behind on the first pitch of the game, which went out for a solo home run.
The two sides meet again at 11 AM in Game Two of the best-of-three. If the Pointers win, the winner-take-all third game will be played later this afternoon. The winner of the La Crosse Super Regional will earn a spot in the NCAA Division III Men’s College World Series.
