LA CROSSE, WI (WSAU)- The season for the UWSP Pointers baseball team has wrapped up after losing to UW Lacrosse Eagles in game two yesterday, 16-10.
UWL scored their 1st 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st with 4 hits, 4 walks, and a hit batter. The 2nd inning looked more promising as UWSP was able to get on the board after a double by Oliver and Tomczak. Lacrosse scored twice in the 3rd, and put the Pointers down 9-1.
In the 4th inning, Corner hit a solo home run bringing the score 9-2. The next innings the Pointers tried to rally, but were never able to catch the Eagles. In the 5th, Boos had a solo homer for UWSP, while in the 6th they got 2 runs on a double.
UWSP scored again in the 7th, while in the 8th Boos and Nelson hit RBI singles that brought the score up 14-8, but UWL ended up scoring 2 more. In the 9th, Oliver started off with a single and Tomczack popped a 2-run home run, but the Pointers could catch the Eagles.
The UWSP Pointers baseball season concluded with a 3rd-straight 30-win campaign and a 2nd straight NCAA Tournament run to the Super Regional Round. UWSP finished the season with 75 long balls- the 3rd most in program history.
