Lawrence Lavergne
MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A 41-year-old Wausau man has been sentenced to federal prison time after he was caught selling drugs to an undercover officer.
Lawrence E. Lavergne was sentenced to nine years in federal prison for one count of distributing five or more grams of meth and possession of a firearm by a felon. Charges stem from a February 2022 incident in which he sold meth to an undercover agent whom he met at a hotel room in Rothschild.
Later that day officers attempted to arrest him in the same hotel room. Lavergne fled by jumping out the window when he heard them knocking. Officers did manage to catch up to him a short time later.
A search of the hotel room turned up thousands of dollars in cash and a significant amount of meth. Investigators later discovered that Lavergne had two 9 MM firearms that were being kept at a home in Antigo along with some loaded magazines. Lavergne’s DNA was found on both weapons.
At sentencing, Judge William Conley told Lavergne that nothing seemed to have changed since his last federal sentence (a 2011 federal conviction for distribution of crack cocaine) and his conduct now seemed to be worse given the inclusion of firearms. Judge Conley noted Lavergne had four state felony convictions since his prior federal offense.
Lavergne was being held in a state prison while he awaited sentencing on the federal charges. Judge Conley ordered the sentence to begin immediately.
