WESTON, WI (WSAU) — On Thursday, village leaders in Weston held a closed planning session to discuss two important matters: candidates for the upcoming Administrator position and the plans for the former Village Hall site.
The former Hall on Schofield Avenue was vacated last winter when all of the Village’s offices and equipment moved to the current Municipal Building on Camp Phillips Road. The Village issued a request for proposals to developers, which came back empty earlier this year. Donner says despite the lack of interest in the site, it does come with potential for developers given its location on a well-traveled street.
“We didn’t receive any interest on it [the first time,] so we’re talking about doing some things a little more aggressively to abate the asbestos that’s in the building and then get the word out,” said Donner.
He expects further discussion on the matter later this month. The board could vote to reissue the request for proposals as soon as its next regular meeting on June 19th.
As for Donner himself, he’s been preparing to step down from the Administrator position for several months to create a smooth transition. The Board is currently reviewing resumes and interviewing candidates, which Donner is staying out of.
“They’re looking at candidates for the position. I really can’t speak for them [as they] go through those applications, but the process will involve some interviews as well,” said Donner.
He adds that he’s willing to work alongside the new hire for some time to make the transition as smooth as possible.
The Board has not commented on the number of applications received for the position or the timeline for the hiring process.
