STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) – Cole Caufield, a forward for the Montreal Canadiens and a native of Stevens Point, has agreed to an eight-year contract extension to stay in Montreal.
Before Caufield became a star in the NHL, he won the 2021 Hobey Baker Award, voted as the top men’s player in NCAA Division I ice hockey while playing for the University of Wisconsin. Caufield was also selected as the Big Ten Player of the Year as a sophomore, when he led NCAA Division I in goals (30), points (52), and power-play goals (11).
Since then, Caufield has excelled playing for the Canadiens with 53 goals and 31 assists in his first three NHL seasons. He scored 26 goals in 46 games the previous year before having wrist surgery that ended his season.
His new contract will boast an average salary of $7.85 million per season, which is worth $62.5 million over the next eight years.
