WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Wausau Human Resources Committee discussed a potential Communications Officer position Monday night, which generated mixed reactions from members of the public and the committee.
Most of the conversation focused on the city’s budget, and concerns about the city’s mounting debt became an issue that most committee members couldn’t get past.
Alderperson Tom Kilian noted that the feedback he’s received about the proposed position from residents has not been positive. He also stated that while he agrees that the city needs to be more cautious about spending, he feels like this position does have value and would be beneficial.
Other issues with the position included the proposed salary for the position which could go as high as $84,000 a year. Some of the members stated that they felt like that amount was too high considering the experience level needed for the position.
The committee voted 4-1 against the creation of the position but noted more discussion and input could be helpful when the council holds budget talks later this year.
