WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – Hunter Biden has accepted the terms of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors regarding two tax offenses and a felony firearms charge.
According to a report in The Washington Post published on Tuesday, Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss and Biden, who has been the subject of a lengthy investigation by authorities, reached an agreement. Hunter will admit to not paying taxes totaling nearly $1.2 million in 2017 and 2018. Biden will receive misdemeanors on both charges.
He is anticipated to receive two years of probation instead of any jail time.
Upon acknowledging the unlawful purchase of a firearm in 2018, the 53-year-old is also reportedly going to enroll in a diversion program. According to sources who talked with the Post, the felony gun charge might be removed from his record once he completes the diversion program.
“The defendant has agreed to plead guilty to both counts of the tax Information,” the prosecutors said in a letter sent Tuesday. “The defendant has agreed to enter a Pretrial Diversion Agreement with respect to the firearm Information.”
Due to his drug use at the time of the incident, the purchase of the gun would have been unlawful.
The agreement comes as Republican’s have been questioning Hunter and his father, President Joe Biden, on an alleged $5 million bribery scheme involving Ukraine.
The claim is made in an FD-1023 form that the FBI generated based on an interview they had in June 2020 with an FBI-designated confidential human source. The secret source has been “consistently reviewed by the FBI” and “found to be highly credible.”
Hunter Biden also faces possible jail time if he fails to appear in a Batesville, Arkansas courtroom on July 10th due to him not paying child support to the mother of his 4-year-old daughter.
Business Insider stated that if Biden does not appear, he could be found in contempt of court, which could result in a jail sentence of up to six months, a fine, up to $20,000 for Lunden Roberts’ legal bills, and the rejection of his petitions in the case.
