MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Brook Lopez is set to become a highly sought-after player once free agency begins putting Milwaukee in a tough spot as they attempt to hold onto the team’s core players.
Adrian Wojnarowski stated that the Houston Rockets are “going to be a real threat” to sign Lopez during ESPN’s coverage of last night’s NBA draft.
Milwaukee’s roster situation would become complicated by the Rockets’ entry into the Lopez race due to Houston’s governor, Tilman Fertitta, who is reportedly willing to spend a lot of money to improve the team.
Over the past five seasons, Lopez has been an important member of the Bucks. In the last four years, he has twice been named to the All-Defensive team, including a first-team selection in 2022–2023.
In 78 starts last season, the 35-year-old averaged 15.9 points on 53.1% shooting (37.4 percent from three-point range), 6.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
Lopez and Khris Middleton, who yesterday declined his $40.4 million option for next season, are the Bucks’ two key roster decisions this summer.
“There’s still a very good opportunity” for Middleton and the Bucks to come to an agreement, according to Wojnarowski’s comments during the draft.
