MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Despite Bucks star Khris Middleton declining his $40 million option with the Bucks last week it seems like there is a solid chance he returns to Milwaukee next season.
Even though it has recently been a “popular theory” in the NBA that the Kings are interested in signing the three-time All-Star, according to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer, “all signs” point toward Middleton signing a new contract with the Bucks.
According to ESPN’s Kevin Pelton, the Kings will have around $36 million in cap space after a draft day trade, which will allow them to offer Middleton a sizable contract. However, the team is also anticipated to be in the running for Warriors free agent Draymond Green.
“Khris is core to who we are and really all the success we’ve had,” Bucks general manager Jon Horst told reporters after the draft last week. “Our goal is always to sustain our success and continue to compete and (have) a chance to win and be in a position to win year in and year out. We hope to have him back.”
Middleton finished the 2022-2023 season after only playing 33 regular-season games due to injuries that bothered him all year long. According to Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, he had right knee surgery soon after the Bucks’ first-round playoff loss to the Miami Heat.
Owczarski also reported that Middleton is scheduled to begin working out on the court again in July.
