MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – After falling behind 6-0 early the Milwaukee Brewers rallied to beat the Chicago Cubs on Monday afternoon.
The Cubs bats were blazing hot early in the second inning when Dansby Swanson led off with a double and Cody Bellinger followed with a single. Christopher Morel doubled shortly after to make it 2-0, and Tucker Barnhart drove in a run with a single off Owen Miller’s glove to make it 3-0.
The third inning looked fairly similar, as Nick Madrigal doubled down the left-field line to increase their lead to 5-0. Another Barnhart single, this time driving in Madrigal, made it 6-0 Cubs.
However, it did not take long for the Milwaukee bats to get rolling, as Brice Turang walked and then scored on a double by William Contreras. Christian Yelich then advanced a base, tripling down the right-field line to trim the lead to 6-2. Willy Adames kept the scoring going with a single of his own.
The Brewers tied the game after a strong seventh inning and continued the hit parade in the eighth as back-to-back singles by Yelich and Contreras allowed Adames to give the Brewers their first lead of the day on a single to right. Miller then flew out deep enough to drive home Yelich, putting the Brewers up 8-6.
Milwaukee is currently tied with the Reds for the NL Central lead. On Tuesday, the Brewers will continue their four-game series with the Cubs. The game begins at 3:10 p.m., with Wade Miley taking the mound against Kyle Hendricks.
