WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Wausau Economic Development Committee met on Wednesday night to discuss The River concert venue proposal.
Back in June, Joe Ellis and Anna Herman of VY Properties laid out their proposal to the committee which included projects that estimate that the venue could bring in 250,00 attendees annually and $53 million in annual spending for the region.
The Committee decided that while the idea was intriguing they also wanted to be sure that the venue was viable and enough people in the community supported having a second concert venue in Wausau.

Wausau’s Development Director Liz Brodeck stated that the city is still in the early stages of finding that interest level and the consultant. “We spoke with everyone I could find and explained the project and everything we are looking for and after those conversations, we decided that we really needed to narrow it down and be able to compare apples to apples,” Brodeck said.
Responses are due back to the city on July 11th, and from there, the city will decide which ones could be the most appealing to VY Properties and then allow them to choose which consultant they prefer.
The studies generally cost $30,000 to $50,000 and take around 3 months to complete, and Brodeck said that the city is looking for a phased approach to ensure as much detail as possible is received.
