Milwaukee Brewers
MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Brewers bats got back on track on Thursday as Milwaukee defeated the Cubs 6-5.
Both Milwaukee and Chicago struggled to get on base, but in the bottom of the 5th inning, Christian Yelich delivered a 3-run home run to left field, putting the Brewers up 4-1.
The comfortable lead would not last long, though, after Cody Bellinger launched a two-run home run in the top of the sixth, shrinking the Brewers lead to 4-3.
The biggest moment of the game came in the bottom of the 8th when Victor Caratini hit a crucial home run deep to right field, putting Milwaukee up 6-5.
Freddy Peralta kept the Cubs bats at bay by striking out 10 and only allowing three earned runs. Joel Payamps earned his third save of the season after retiring the Cubs to end the game.
The Brewers will begin a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow, with Corbin Burns taking the mound against Andrew Abbott. The first pitch will be at 7:10 p.m. on WSAU.
