WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man accused of killing another man in May of 2021 will go to trial next spring.
Judge Susanne O’Neil has scheduled a two-week trial for Michal Turner beginning April 15th and concluding on the 26th for one count of intentional homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The case also includes one felony count for possession of THC.
Turner is accused of shooting a 45-year-old man as he was sitting in a car near Thomas Street in Wausau. Turner then fled, and the victim was able to get to a nearby business for help.
The man was hospitalized but died of his injuries a few weeks later.
Turner left Wausau immediately after the shooting, prompting a be on the lookout for him and his vehicle. He was arrested in Marquette County later in the day without incident.
Turner had previously been scheduled for trial in the summer of 2022 but that was called off when his attorney dropped out of the case.
Should the 47-year-old be found guilty he would face a mandatory life sentence for the homicide count alone. Court records show he also faces a count of battery by prisoners, which has been rolled into the homicide case.
A jury status hearing will be held on March 11th. Turner is being held in jail on a $1 million bond.
