TOWN OF RIB LAKE, WI (WSAU) — Two vehicles racing in Taylor County lead to a deadly one-vehicle crash on Tuesday.
Officers said they received numerous calls about an injury crash shortly before 7 PM, including some from witnesses who said it appeared that two vehicles had been racing just before the incident. Investigators determined that the vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Ethan M. Berry, had just passed the second vehicle involved in the race. Berry then failed to negotiate a curve in the road, and the vehicle fell down an embankment, hitting numerous trees before coming to rest.
Berry died at the scene. A passenger in his vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Qwinton K. Davenport, was seriously injured. Officers say his prognosis is unknown at this time.
The driver of the second vehicle involved was not identified, though officers say they made “several arrests” at the scene. Speed and alcohol were both factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further information has been released.
